Well, John, I guess we each have to choose a horse and then back it. I’m going to go with the Academies of Science. You might argue they’ve become corrupted in the avaricious pursuit of funding, as Dr Chevriere did. I don’t get that impression.

Professor Lindzen gave testimony to the House of Lords in January 2005 outlining his views on alarmism. HP will publish a letter from Lord Ron Oxburgh, a Fellow of the Royal Society, in our February issue. This deals both with Dr Chevriere’s letter, refers to Professor Lindzen and takes up the general question of the robustness of the view that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are causing global warming – a connection accepted by Professor Lindzen in his memorandum to the upper house.
