A public talk: What a difference a day makes! Mia and I decided in the Spring of 2005 to spend a day per week – four hours each minimum – doing something about climate change.
We've found that from the point of a family taking action, this period of the climate crisis becomes a very exciting time to be alive. As Al Gore says, it's a time of consequence. Psychically, Mia and I realised that there would be consequences for our spirit if we did not change gear, begin to change our lives and use our talents to inspire change in our community.
The great thing about making a commitment to spend some time – doing something – is that journeys of thousands of miles begin with small steps like these. Now there are many people on the march.
We use our day to do things like this... • visit and learn about windmills • book train journeys instead of plane journeys • organise film viewings, including privately booking an entire cinemea at a week's notice • gather business leaders • start a voluntary association • found a limited company to develop a €100m offshore wind park • joined in the creation of a new west coast conference on renewables • propose the founding of a new international magazine • formed a climate-friendly media group called wingo media • proposed a tv programme to SVT • created an advisory group to design a climate-friendly leisure boat
